It isn't right to say that using search engines makes us dumber. I think that modern technology such as the internet can only make you dumber if you allow it to. Some people use the internet as a resource to gather information quickly. Using Search engines as a search tool for research makes things easier for us and a lot faster. You can get information from other countries, without leaving your own home. However, if you use Google as a search tool all the time then that's when it begins to make you dumber. I think that we shouldn't depend on the internet, for everything that we learn. We should take the initiative and try to learn things on our own. sometimes we should try to do the hard work and research on our own. When we start to depend on other peoples research, and knowledge that's when we become dumber.

As far as the social concept of the internet I think that its an effective way to make friends who without the internet you would have never met. You get the chance to meet people who share some of the same things that you like. Be it certain video games, sports, teams, etc. the problem with communicating with people over the internet is that you never know who is on the other side. You don't know whether the person is who they say they are, or someone just trying to take advantage of you. You have to take extreme caution when you try to make new friends over the internet.
